I am extremely thankful for having the opportunity to work in CCI Metal Products during my incarceration. One of the most difficult aspects of being incarcerated is a loss of identity. In this system, you are just a number, not a unique individual, it is very dehumanizing. Being part of the CCI organization helps us feel human again and we are treated as individuals and not inmates. It is empowering to contribute to something important and helps us stay connected to society and the outside world. As a team, we build real world products and take great pride in doing so. We learn valuable work and personal skills that directly increase out odds of finding meaningful employment which is essential to being productive members of society. Also, it is very significant on many levels to be able to earn your own income. Not only can we provide for ourselves now and save for the future, but not be a financial burden on our loved ones.
